“So grateful to Dalia and Susan for my doula journey through BirthWell Partners. It has been a wonderful experience. I loved my training and the support I have received from them”

About the Birth Doula Workshop:

This course is for anyone interested in supporting families during pregnancy, the birth experience and the first hours and weeks after their baby is born.  It is designed to help participants become expert labor support providers. We use hands-on instruction supported by texts and supplementary literature, DVDs, and practical skills. You won’t be sitting around during this workshop! Activities and discussions are designed to prepare you to attend births with confidence!
Attendance constitutes one step in the process of becoming a DONA Int’l.-certified Doula (CD)DONA.

On completion of the intensive 22-hour workshop, participants will be able to:

-Identify the significance of birth to a family.
-Define the role of the doula, and her scope of practice.
-List benefits of a doula on obstetrical outcomes from current research.
-Describe emotional and physical needs of laboring women
and their support people.
-Demonstrate helpful labor positions, recognize onset of
labor and identify progress during labor.
-Demonstrate non-pharmaceutical pain reduction methods.
-Discuss VBACs and Cesarean delivery and the role of the
doula.
-Describe the doula’s role in the prenatal period.
-Describe the doula’s role in the postpartum period.
-Discuss DONA International certification process and membership benefits.

“I learned how all the hormones work in conjunction with each other and how interrupting this process can effect a lot of things!”

“The training was amazing! It was overwhelming at times because of all that I was learning, however, it really helped me to realize that being a doula was the right choice for me.”

This workshop includes a guided tour of a Labor and Delivery Suite in Birmingham.

Hi, I see I have missed the deadline for a scholarship for the Doula training program for
spring 2013. I don’t see any other way I could afford to take these classes.(my husband has been out of work for 6 weeks)
so I was wondering if you could give me a little information about the scholarships and maybe I can try again
next time. I was blessed by BirthWell when I could not afford to hire a doula, but desperately needed one.
I had such a wonderful experience in my 2nd natural birth (with my first I did not have a doula) that I feel
very strongly that I want other women to have the beautiful experience that I did! I am very passionate about
birth in general, I entered a whole new world when I got pregnant with my first. I am also hoping you could give me some
advice as to things I can do or books I can read while I am waiting for the chance to take the certifying classes.
Thank you so much for your time and your wonderful program for low income women!

      Amanda,
so sorry you missed the deadline. We will be doing another training in the fall, probably October. Keep an eye on our facebook as we will post on there when we have scheduled another training. The information on how to apply for a scholaraship is here http://www.birthwellpartners.org/scholarship-information/. read through it and send me and/or Susan an email letting us know you are interested. We will then be able to easily contact you when it is time for the next go around. As a mother who benefited from our program, having you come and become a doula would be wonderful! I can’t promise you a scholarship at this time, we have an application process, but we would LOVE to have you apply. I hope this is helpful!!!

I am wondering when the next training is? And when the next deadline is for a scholarship?

    1. Dalia

      Hey Amanda,
the next training will be April 3-7. scholarship deadline will be about 8 weeks before that. But it’s never too early to apply.

  3. Holly

Hey! I wont be able to attend this spring training. If there one around october? My daughter is 6 weeks. I also have an 18 Month old.

    1. Dalia

      Hi Holly,
Yes there will be another in October. Check back in about 2 months we should have it posted by then. By the way, babies in arms are welcome to the training if you want to bring your 6 week old.

      1. Dalia

Hey Holly, I am now publishing info about our October 2014 training! I hope you can attend this time!

  4. Harper Goodman

Dalia, I just spoke with you on the phone. I noticed the guidelines for the scholarship required one to be 21 years old. Is that just for the scholarship or the training aswell? I am not quite 20, so I may not be able to attend this year.

    1. Dalia

Hello Harper, sorry I am just seeing this. The age requirement is only for being a volunteer, and for the scholarship. And that’s for legal reasons. Nothing to do with your ability to be a fantastic doula! You can absolutely attend the doula training.

  5. Christina Hooper

Good evening- I am wondering if the Doula training in April would certify me as a postpartum doula?

    Thank you,
    Christina Hooper

    1. Dalia

Hi Christina, sorry I didn’t reply sooner. I only saw this comment today. The doula training in April is a Birth doula training. Not a postpartum doula training.IF you are interested in a postpartum training, please contact Christina Terrell ([email protected]), she is trying to organize one here in the Birmingham area.

  6. Malisa

    Hi Dalia 🙂

I am interested in registering for the October course. When I click on the payment options, however, they all say April. Just a little confused. 😉

    – Malisa

    1. Dalia

      Hi Malisa,
Sorry about that. We haven’t updated it yet. Also, I am working on finalizing the dates. At this moment in time, the intro class will be on either Tuesday OCt. 18th OR Wed. Oct. 19th. The three day workshop will be Fri. Sat. and Sun Oct. 20, 21, 22 and the Breastfeeding class will be on Oct. 31st.
If these dates are fine for you, you can register for it using the April links that are there and email me so I know what you meant to register for. The best way to reach me is through email: [email protected]. I sometimes miss messages here. Thanks!
