We feel very lucky to have had a doula as part of our birth experience. We went in search of a doula as I was determined to have an unmedicated birth and wasn’t sure how supportive the nurses at the hospital would be. Our doula met with us before the birth and thoroughly talked through our vision of the birth of our son. We knew then that we had made a great decision as the doula’s exprience, confidence, and kindness shined through. These qualities continued as she labored with us throughout the night at the hospital. As soon as she walked into the room, she was advocating for me. She was by my side helping ease the pain and talking me through the contractions. Even after the birth, she guided me through passing the placenta myself and helping my son latch for the first time. I had the birth experience I envisioned, and I believe our doula helped to make that happen. Even after we were home, she continued to be a great source of support. She visited us at home and eased all of my worries and was always a quick e-mail away when a question arose. I highly recommend hiring a doula’s services.
How did your doula help you during labor and birth?
“She helped me to calm down and breath and not to panic. She gave me massages which relaxed me. She explained terms that I didn’t understand that the doctor and nurses were saying.”
What was the MOST helpful thing about having a doula?
“Having someone to help me stay calm and be understanding during labor.”
If you were to have another baby, would you want a doula to help you again?
“Yes”
I wanted to experience labor with a doula. I felt that a doula would help me cope with the pain sensation of natural childbirth. I was right. Having a doula made the experience more pleasant. I enjoyed having the encouragement and coping skills the doula used to help with labor pains.I would recommend it to anyone wanting have a natural enjoyable childbirth. Cause with the right doula it is possible! My doula helped me through the hardest part of labor the last 30 minutes. She encouraged and helped me cope with the intense pains of labor. I am truely grateful for her presence during my labor.
Hi my name is Lenora and I had a labor doula during my birth. I really enjoyed having her with me during this wonderful process. To me the labor doula did things that your family members may not want to do. My doula held my hand during the epidural process. She brought something called a “rice sock” and it was very warm and helped cope with the pain alot. She even brought pepper mints for me even though (during labor) you dont sappose to eat anything. She also brought scented oils and candles to make the room smell nice and make me feel a little more comfortable. So Basically she helped me through-out my whole labor and helped me breathe through my contractions so I would recomend that ALL young moms/ and women get a labor doula to be apart of their support system.
When my daughter-in-law, Jenna, told me that she was going to use a Doula, I thought to myself “What the devil is a Doula?” And also thought “OK, my children are crazy and have read a lot of new fangled ideas on having babies.” But when we were in the birthing room during labor, I met Heather. During the course of Jenna’s labor I saw the caring and compassion that a Doula brings to the birthing process. Heather not only was a “hands on” Doula, but was also a tremendous comfort to my son Matt, myself, and Jenna’s mom. I was allowed to help during the labor, thanks to Heather, which is a memory I will never forget.
Thanks so much Heather!
I don’t have enough words of praise for you. You are special!
