  • Project Independence:

    • Provides safe, stable living accommodations to pregnant and/or parenting homeless mothers and their children (ages 16-21) who are engaged in breaking cycles of trauma and poverty. â€‹

  • ​She Recovers : Walker County & adjacent communities

    • Offers pregnant mothers and parenting mothers struggling with substance use a one-stop for prenatal care, substance use treatment, medication, parenting support, counseling, and peer recovery support.

    • Also connects women to resources for food, clothing, healthcare, and legal issues.​

  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC):

    • The federal WIC program supports low-income pregnant women, new mothers, and children up to age 5 by providing nutrition education, healthy food, breastfeeding support, and health care referrals.

    • Most WIC programs provide participants with food vouchers to use at approved grocery stores. To apply, visit your local WIC office.

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF):

    • TANF helps eligible low-income families by providing temporary cash assistance, work and job training services, and more.

  • ​Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) - ALL Kids:

    • ALL Kids is administered by the Alabama Department of Public Health and provides low cost healthcare coverage to eligible children under age 19 who live in Alabama.​

  • Subsidized Day Care Services:

    • The Office of Child Care Subsidy administers the subsidized child care program to provide Alabama’s low and moderate-income families with equal access to affordable and quality child care services as they participate in work, educational or training activities.​

  • National Maternal Mental Health Hotline: Call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262)

    • 24/7, free, confidential support, resources and referrals to any pregnant and postpartum mothers facing mental health challenges and their loved ones. The service is available via phone and text in English or Spanish.​​

  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP):

    • ​The objectives of LIHEAP are to help low-income families meet the costs of home energy, defined as heating and cooling of residences, and to increase their energy self-sufficiency and reduce their vulnerability resulting from energy needs.

  • InfantSEE:

    • Infants six to twelve months of age can receive a free comprehensive eye and vision examination regardless of a family's income or access to health insurance coverage through InfantSEE. InfantSEE is a public health program managed by Optometry's Charity, The AOA Foundation. ​
